Welcome to my Life by Simple Plan
“No you don’t know what its like to be like me.”
This song reminds me of Frankenstein because its about someone that is miserable but no one knows what its like because they aren’t in their shoes. This reminds me of the book because the creature is the only one of his kind and he will never be accepted socially and there’s no one in the world that would understand that.

“Nature Boy” by eden ahbez
There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he
And then one day
A magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things
Fools and kings
This he said to me
“The greatest thing you’ll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return”
“The greatest thing you’ll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return”
When I was listening to my Natalie Cole CD, I thought about this post. I can imagine the Creature saying these words to Frankenstein. By the way, this song was written in 1947 and was made popular by Nat King Cole in 1948. It was a #1 hit! However, I did not know the orgin of the song. The background is rather interesting. Check out this radio broadcast from “We The People” in 1948.

It’s Not Me by 3 Doors Down
“Look what you did
Is this who you wanted me to be?
Well it’s not me
Look what you did
Is this how you wanted it to be?
This life you gave away
Was meant for me”
The creature did not turn out like Frankenstein thought he would be. And because he turned the creature into an evil being, the creature must live like that for the rest of his life.

Why do you think song lyrics work well for comparison to themes/characters/issues in Frankenstein? It’s rather interesting to know this book written in the 1800’s can make us STOP and think differently about WORDS we hear frequently but perhaps do not really place MEANING on. Good job folks!

There are several songs that come to mind for Frankenstein. The one that I really believe fits would be “Broken” by Lindsey Haun.
“Wake up to a sunny day
not a cloud up in the sky, then it starts to rain.
My defenses hit the ground, and they shatter all around.
So open and exposed.
I found strength in the struggle. Face to face with my trouble.
When you’re broken in a million little pieces,
& you’re tryin but you can’t hold on any more.
Every tear falls down for a reason.
Don’t you stop believing in yourself.
When you’re broken.”
I think that this song is perfect, because it’s saying that you have to go through the bad in order to get to the good. The creature’s world has basically shattered, but know that things happen for a reason. We may not know it at first, but know that every morning is yesterday’s tomorrow.
